With regard to snacks try to keep raw fruits and vegetables handy. They are both diet-friendly and healthy. By keeping things like sliced carrots, lightly blanched broccoli and of course fruit such as apples. Have them ready to eat so you can quickly take the edge off of your appetite and not succumb to handy junk food, such as candy, which is high in calories. One caveat, new research from the University of Arkansas indicates that cooking carrots increases their goodness… slicing and blanching them for a couple of minutes apparently increase their antioxidant power, so you might want to do that.

Also including more raw foods in your diet is good for digestion. Your body can often break down uncooked foods their natural enzymes have not been destroyed by the cooking process. This will benefit older people who will often have an easier time getting the nutrients they need from eating raw food.

    Losing Weight

While it might be tempting to cut out the carbohydrates like pasta it might be better to make the switch to whole wheat pasta. These are better for you because they are more filling than the alternatives as a result you will not be tempted to snack so much.

A great way to help you lose weight is to start adding healthier alternatives each day just a bit at a time and don’t overwhelm yourself. Bulldozing your way into a diet will most likely result in failure, start slowly and try to get used to the healthier foods alternative. In this way you’ll be more likely to stick with it and it will become a part of your regular diet, you might learn to savour these new foods and stay with them. You know it only takes a few months to change your food taste; I have tried it with salt by slowly cutting if from my diet and now I have gone from a salt loving person to someone who really cannot eat much salt laden food.

You should treat yourself now and again whilst trying to lose weight. Indulge yourself by eating your favourite food, but make sure it is only in very small portions… maybe try healthful alternatives that taste good too. In this way you are not allowing yourself to get to the point when your cravings overtake you and you lose all hope with your diet or worse binge which can lead to weight gain. So be kind to yourself and give in to a little naughty indulgence… once in a while.

However, continue to monitor and keep track of how many calories you consume each day. If you notice that there are places where you really can cut out or substitute the fattening foods then do it.

Remember that all of these little changes add up to success so you should start doing them now. Then add each one of these tips slowly until you make them part of your everyday life. In this way you will find weight loss less painful and even enjoyable as you find yourself losing weight and feeling more energetic.
